Uganda - Orphanage History

Pastors

Pastors Moses and Martha Mutyaba, pastors of a church in Entebbe, Uganda were both orphaned and living on the streets of Kampalla, eating out of garbage cans during the terrible war of the dictator Edie Amien. Soon after they married they were given land and started taking in children. Just two years ago they showed me a small, one room building on the land and said they were starting the “Home of Comfort Orphanage”. As the children arrived they quickly added bedrooms to the building. They also constructed a two room school, a cookhouse, outhouse, and shower area, all separate from the orphanage’s main building. The church members are so poor they contribute very little to support the orphanage. I was deeply surprised to learn that Free Lance Ministries is the only support they have.

These children were kidnapped by the rebel army leader Joseph Kony and somehow escaped. Others escaped the rebels by running into the wood after witnessing the death of their parents and other loved ones. Kony’s rebel army has kidnapped thousands of teenagers using the boys for boy soldiers and the girls as sex slaves. The younger children and elderly are left behind without the necessary means to survive.
